Slip Masterbatch provides a slippery property to films.


1. Brief Introduction
Slip Masterbatch makes the friction between either polymer and polymer or polymer and the inside of machine reduced when it is is mixed with polymer well.

Polymer film passes mostly a high speed rotation forming process and then is wound in roll. By the way, high level energy caused by the friction between the film makes film broken or influences the fabrication speed badly due to a hard releasing property from the roll. Even after fabrication of the film, it is inconvenient to use because of bad opening property.

In case the slipery property is insufficient, it is inconvenient to use due to no good fastening or opening properties even in polymer products like injection molded caps, sheets, etc.

 

2. Functions of Slip Masterbatch

Slip Masterbatch is made of a plasticizer having small compatibility with polymer and provides slippery property by making the slip agent migrated to the surface of polymer after forming the products.

The dosage of Slip Masterbatch is generally different depending on the kind of polymer (LDPE, HDPE, PP, PS 등) and the size/thickness of the product, environmental conditions and forming conditions even the polymer is of same kind. Normal dosage for olefin base is approx. 500~5,000ppm but it may be variable according to the kind of pigment/filler and the content of them. As fillers have the property of absorbing Slip agent, the dosage of it sould be increased in case of using fillers.

4. How to measure Slippery Property

4. 1) Tanθ Value 
Wrap the cube with the specimen film and put it on the plate covered with the specimen film. Then lean the plate slowly  and measure the value of Tanθ when the cube starts to slip. 

Less Tanθ value, better slippery property. => Friction coefficient is lower!

- Drop of transparency when use too much 

- Drop of printing property

- Drop of sealing property

- Yellowish phenomenon may occur when processed at high temperature
