Functional Masterbatch

VCI M/B

Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) Masterbatch is quite useful to prevent metalic parts or devices packed in vinyl bags or wrapped with films from rusting for the oxidation with oxygen or chemicals(acids) in the air.

1. Brief Introduction

Generally metals rust because of reaction to oxygen, humidity or chemicals(acids) in the air. Volatile agent treated in VCI Masterbatch forms a kind of layer on the surface of metal parts or devices, which blocks the contact of metals with oxygen, humidity or chemicals(acids). VCI Masterbatch is most useful to prevent the metal parts and/or devices packed in vinyl bags or wrapped with films from rusting among several anti-rust agent & corrossion inhibitors such as rust-inhibiting oil, rust-inhibiting paint, electric anti-rust treatment and others.

2. Principle of Anti-Rust

Volatile gas evaporated from VCI films forms a corrosion inhibiting layer on the surface of metals, which has an anti-rust effect. The anti-rust effect lasts till whole volatile gas contained in VCI films disappears. The volatile gas volume evaporated from the films is variable depending on the temperature and the humidity content inside of the film/vinyl packagings. VCI films are also workable even in high temperature and humidity.

3. Cautions in Packing

As the volatile gas volume evaporated from the films is limited, it is impossible to secure the corrosion inhibiting effect with VCI films only in case the volume of packaging is too big. So, it is recommended to use sufficient quantity of VCI packs together in consideration of the size of packing when pack the big size of goods. It should be considered in design that total packaging surface does not over 1m² in case packing with VCI film only.

4. Features & Advantages of VCI Masterbatch

- The validity of VCI film is generally 1 year.

- Toxicity: Nontoxic & no-harmful to human body (Testing Method: in accordance with the regulations of KSA 2112)
